I’m sure you’ve seen ads or received spam emails that say, “Get paid to search the Internet.” While there are plenty of bogus offers out there, I have found one company that truly is legitimate: SwagBucks. I first learned about this through Katie at Bring On The Lloyds, who had written a blog post about it after trying the program herself for several months.

How it Works

When you search the Internet through SwagBucks.com, you have the opportunity to “win” SwagBucks every time you search. You may win one, two, five or zero on your search. It’s very random. You can also earn SwagBucks by shopping through the SwagBucks shopping portal, recycling old cell phones and referring friends. The SwagBucks can then be redeemed at the SwagStore for items such as collectibles, books, movies, gift cards and more.

My Experience With SwagBucks

Search & WinI have found this is a great way to earn a little extra money for something I’m already doing: searching the Internet. The SwagBucks search engine is powered by Google, so the results are very similar to what you would get with Google.

My favorite thing to redeem my SwagBucks for is Amazon.com gift cards. When you reach 45 SwagBucks, you can redeem them for a $5 Amazon.com gift card. Amazon offers free shipping on many of its products when you spend $25, so I wait until I have $25 in gift cards and make my purchase. The great part about Amazon is that they have such a wide range of products that I’ve been able to get everything from a cookbook for my husband to a potty seat for my son with SwagBucks.

I average $10-$15/month in Amazon gift cards. By the end of the year I estimate I’ll have earned over $1oo in Amazon gift cards that I’ve used to purchase things that I normally would have paid out-of-pocket for. If you don’t win any SwagBucks on your first few searches, don’t be discouraged. It’s very random. I can assure you, they really do add up!

There are several ways you can search. The first is to simply go to SwagBucks.com and do your search from there. The second is to install a plug-in that works with the built-in search box of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera. The third is to download the SwagBucks Toolbar. I have found the toolbar works best for me because it makes searching quicker and  “The Swag Guy” will occasionally send out messages through the toolbar with codes for free SwagBucks. Referring friends and family members is another good way to rack up SwagBucks.

By simply changing which search engine you use to search the Internet, you can make a little extra money. Click here to learn more or sign up.

Good post. $10-$15 a month in Amazon cards is good…thats better than 1 swagbuck a day. I also use Swagbucks!

I end up doing a lot of searches for my job which helps increase my odds. I also rarely use a phone book and just do a search when I need a phone number for something. I’ve been trying to follow their Facebook Fan Page more closely for free SwagBucks codes. Also, the bucks for referring friends has helped me earn more quickly. Thanks for reading & commenting!
