A New Use For Egg Cartons

Egg Cartons NestedI read about an idea several months ago to wash and save egg cartons for kids to use as blocks. We tried it and our kids love it! The cartons can be stored open and nested together so they don’t take up much space. When the kids are ready to play we close them back up and they can build away. It’s a much cheaper alternative to the cardboard blocks sold in toy stores.

Cute idea! One idea I read about but haven’t tried is to use old egg cartons to make homemade lunchables – just wash and line with aluminum foil and put the food in each little slot. You could cut the carton in half to make two smaller ones. It’s a great idea for lunches on the go.

Egg cartons are excellent resources for learning games. I have used them in my class to practice math facts, letter sounds, color words, etc. For instance, you can write letters inside each little cup, place a penny inside and shake. When you open the carton you can have your child think of as many words as possible that begin with the letter that the penny landed on. You can have a little competition to see who can come up with the most words.

I have recently started collecting egg cartons…I have used them to package chocolate covered strawberries as a gift. Makes the strawberries easily portable. You could also package bon bons and maybe mini cupcakes. I decorated the lid to make it look cute.
