Thanks for commenting Danielle! Another good place to get half-price gift cards is through local radio and TV stations (at least around here). Many of them have started offer "meal deals" and other half-priced gift cards.

This is as GREAT idea - I never thought about this for people! I've used it a few times for myself... but they would work so great as gifts! I was actually going around different sites and blogs looking for something to get my boyfriend for our first Christmas together... and all I have come up with so far is a personalized ornament (kind of like these http://www.ornamentsandmore.com/1st-christmas-ornaments.aspx ) ... but I think paired with some groupon coupons to some new places to eat at in Vancouver would be awesome!!!

That's interesting Valerie. When I received mine they didn't have them labeled vendor samples. Maybe they've stopped this practice.

Hi Valerie,

Thanks for sharing the information on your site! It is very cool! Do you have any plans to add listings from the local newspaper? In our area at least, there are many more listings in the paper than on Craigs List. It would be nice to have both sources in one spot to really save time.

Thanks again for sharing!

I *wish* we had a discount bread store near us. Alas, it closed several years ago. I have a friend who gets me sub rolls (big 2 foot long suckers), that the grocery store deli is gonna toss (her son works there). My teenagers and hubby love them.

Otherwise, to save money on bread I make it at home. Bread makers abound at garage sales, I see them all the time for $10 or less. Buying the bread flour and yeast in bulk, I can make bread for about 25¢ a loaf. Pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, etc., too. I rarely bake the bread in the machine, since I'm not big on vertical loaves of bread. So, I turn the machine on "dough" and when it beeps I shape the bread and bake it.

I've got glasses from them in the past. Still wearing them. The frugal part of me wants the cheap glasses, but the business-owner part of me is against patronizing them because they were shipped from Korea and labeled as 'vendor samples' (which was fraud) to avoid paying import taxes. That kind of business practice makes it impossible for US companies to compete. Kind of a hard decision...

Oh, Kathy, say it ain't so! You're plotting your route? With great sites like mine -- Garage Sale Finder -- you can see where the sales are near you with just a few clicks of the mouse. Then you can print out maps, directions, listings, or even download the locations to a GPS device. All free, too.

Oh, and the sales are color coded: single, multi-family, group, estate, and neighborhood-wide.

I have a program that imports craigslist listings. It doesn't get all of them since they are organic, my software will skip listings it can't figure out. But... it gets most of them. Last week we had over 13,000 listings mapped.

Since you're obviously an avid garage sale shopper, I'd love some feedback on what you think of my site.

I also bought a pair and with shipping it was $12.95! I bought some funky purple frames- something I would not do if spending $100 or more. Since I wear contacts most of the time I just need them in the morning and evening. Any problems I do have I would have with any glasses just because I so use to contacts (lack of peripheral vision and something on my face getting in the way of laying down and kid kisses).
If I was more comfortable with glasses I would not hesitate to get frames I can change with my mood and look.
